WhiteNoize Magazine

Issue 3 of WhiteNoize Magazine slipped out between Christmas and New Year. It's a great new UK ski and snowboard magazine that you should definitely have a read of. New year: More photographs, more blogs

Happy New Year and all that Jazz!   It's 2012 and I've set myself a couple of new years resolutions. I don't do negative resolutions, i.e. I'm not going to eat cake, I tend to challenge myself to do things. So, this year I've made two resolutions:  

1. Take more and better photographs - I've kind of fallen off the photography wagon recently. I'm not sure how but it has been a while since I've produced anything meaningful. That is going to change this year. I have a notebook full of ideas and at least one project to complete so I have plenty to go at! I'm working on making the time to actual press the shutter release and also to read around so I can make more informed and meaningful photographs. I'm also going to try to share the process and the photographs on here a bit more.
2. Get better at snowboarding - Not photography related (other than when I shoot snowboarding) but important for my personal development. I've now been snowboarding for over 10 years; 10 years ago tomorrow I got on a plane to Canada to spend the season snowboarding. I improved for 8 of those years but for the last couple of years I've just been coasting along. So this year I'm going to be a better rider and learn some more tricks.  I have a day of coaching coming up this Sunday with Maverix at Castleford so I'm already on it!

  In other news that is exciting to me, I have just bought a Canon 7D. After the trauma of trying to afford my last DSLR upgrade 3 years ago I started putting £25 a month aside for the next upgrade. So, 38 months later and after a careful review of January sales, I managed to acquire a new body. I was tempted to go full frame with the 5D MKII but it's getting on for 3 1/2 years old, the focusing is better for action sports on the 7D (film is my medium for the arty stuff) and I have some EF-S glass that won't work full frame -  making the whole thing roughly twice as expensive when factoring in replacements. Anyway, gear geekery aside, I can't wait to see what I can get out of the thing! This will definitely help with resolution 1.   Another blog post to follow immediately with something else cool.

Blog update fail

I haven't updated in a while! There hasn't been a fantastic amount happening lately, I've got an awful lot of negatives that need developing and/or scanning and I've done a couple of portrait shoots. Nothing too exciting I'm afraid. I think I've got a couple more images in the can for my "Lamp Lit" series though, it's taking me a long time but it's getting there. The snowboard season is kicking off again so hopefully I'll have a bit more on that front coming up. Catch you soon.

Open exhibition at Bar Lane Studios, York

I found out today that one of my prints has been selected for the open exhibition at the Bar Lane Studios in York. The exhibition starts on Sunday after the preview on Saturday night so go and have a look, it promises to be pretty diverse in terms of the art on display.
The photograph in the exhibition is Untitled (Aviator Court) from my ongoing Lamp Lit series.

It's printed to the highest quality on Kodak Metallic paper, which gives it a beautiful, almost 3D quality. I have seven 16"x20" signed prints, from a limited edition of nine, still available. Please contact me for pricing details if you're interested in buying one.

Brand New

Another new website, I think this one is more fit for purpose. Exciting things have been happening lately (including the new website) so I'll do a proper little update soon. If there's anything not working on here then let me know, I'm still ironing out the bugs!   Charlie
